Studying How Brains Interact with the World
The Simons Collaboration on Ecological Neuroscience (SCENE) is a hypothesis-driven, theory-first, multi-species consortium uncovering general principles of brain function through an ecological perspective.
Our Mission
SCENE seeks to uncover general principles of brain function through an ecological perspective: studying perception, cognition, and action in the context of the affordances available to different agents. Over the next decade, SCENE aims to develop an experimentally-verifiable “meta-theory” that, from the ecology of a species—its natural input statistics, ecological challenges, and bodily and neural constraints—predicts state representations and dynamics across its brain.
